A Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa Movie Night

A Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa Movie Night

Every year we try to add a little more Disney into our holiday. Whether it’s with copycat recipes from the Very Merrytime Christmas Cruise, finding our favorite Disney Holiday decor, or watching the Muppet’s Christmas Carol over and over again, we always find new things to do and share. One of our favorite Disney Christmas Movies is the Muppet’s Christmas Letters to Santa. With catchy songs honoring the post office, and a letter that needs to find its way to Santa Claus, fast, this holiday movie is fun and festive. As such we just had to add some crafts, drinks, and dinner to our Disney Christmas Movie Night. Here are our favorite foods and activities to bring the spirit of the season, and Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa, home.

For this film, we started with setting up a Letters to Santa station. Perfect for kids and grown-ups, grabbing envelopes, stamps, markers, and the Santa Letter printable below makes this easy! We also wanted to create some fun and easy foods to watch with this movie, so we kept it simple. Including a fun Miss Piggy-inspired drink, personal Margherita pizzas, and a popcorn bar! These are fun, simple, and very easy treats you can have while watching Muppets Christmas movies this season.

Write Letters to Santa Claus

Write Letters to Santa

As a homage to the United States Postal Service back in 2008, the Muppets embarked on trying to get an important Christmas letter to Santa before Christmas arrived! With Nathan Lane, Whoopi Goldberg, and Uma Thurman alongside our favorite troupe, A Muppets Christmas: Letters to Santa combines all the fun and challenges of the holiday rush with the lessons of Christmas. We love love love this movie as an afternoon flick to watch while baking. And it always gets us in the spirit of the season and ready to write letters to Santa Claus!

How to Write Letters to Santa

Believe it or not, there is a “way” to write letters to Santa Claus. And for us, it usually involves food, cocoa, and a reason to hang out together some random afternoon in November. But really, it’s just about having everything together all in one place, so you can focus on the letter to the big man himself. Set aside a day and time to tackle this holiday task. Make it a brunch or just an evening activity. Here’s what you’ll need to write letters to Santa on your own.

What you need:

Paper and Pens or Markers: You can grab colored pens and markers and our printable letter to Santa in a half sheet. Or you can grab a full sheet Dear Santa letter.  And be sure to grab Envelopes too! Regular security letter envelopes are fine! But you can also grab a pack of notecard envelopes if you want a more card-sized envelope for your letter.

Postal Stamps: By far the most important thing needed to mail your letter to Santa is stamps. The USPS releases new Christmas stamps a few months before Christmas every year! Thankfully you can also just order Christmas stamps online

A Hot Cocoa Cart: Frankly, during the holidays, every activity needs a hot cocoa cart. We’ve pulled together all our favorite marshmallows, cocoas, and hot cocoa fixings. Check out everything you need to pull together for a Hot Cocoa bar cart for your afternoon writing letters to Santa.

Miss Piggy’s Pink Drink

One of our favorite scenes in Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa is Miss Piggy at the post office….standing in line. We’ve all been there. As such, Miss Piggy is loud and sassy and we love her for it. So we decided to create a drink just like her.  We kept it non-alcoholic so little ones can join in on the fun. Here’s what you’ll need

  • 7 UP or Sprite
  • Grenadine
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Fun serving glass, we love these ones and use them for just about every occasion we can
  • Sugar and food coloring if you want to sugar the rim

To sugar, the rim, just mix sugar and food coloring in a small bowl, wet the rim of the glass(before filling it with a drink of course), and tip it upside down into the sugar, and voila. To make the drink,  just add 7 UP to the glass, just a dash of Grenadine, and 1 or 2 (or as many as you like) maraschino cherries. And there you have it, a fun Miss Piggy-inspired drink for your Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa movie night.

Muppet Christmas Pizza

We love the scene in the pizza parlor during this movie, so we thought why not make mini pizzas for our Muppets Movie night? We made them Margherita style, with mozzarella pearls, fresh basil, and tomatoes to make it festive for the holiday; but you could do any toppings you like. If you’re looking for an easy homemade pizza crust, we like this one from Sally’s Baking Addiction.  It’s super easy and quick and just a really good dough all around! Of course, if you just don’t have the patience or time for homemade pizza dough, feel free to buy a pizza dough mix, premade pizza crust or heck, even a store-bought or ordered pizza will do!

Muppets Christmas Popcorn Bar

Part of the joy of a Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa Movie Night, is that there are so many funny lines in this film, you may just want to re-watch it again after you finish to catch them all. As a result, we needed to add something that we could just have on hand. Extra snacks and treats are perfect for a Muppets Christmas Letters to Santa Movie Night. And we just love the idea of a Christmas popcorn bar because it lets everyone choose what toppings they’d like. We chose to stay within the holiday theme and had red and green peanut M&Ms, Swedish fish, and white and dark chocolate peppermint pretzels. Feel free to add your family’s favorite popcorn add-ins and have fun with them.  We also used these disposable containers to keep things organized and keep the mess at bay.

Whether you choose to use these recipes or use this post for inspiration, we wish you the best holiday movie nights at home this year!
