Everything Coming to Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line from D23 EXPO 2022

Things are always changing. And let’s face it the changes at Disney Parks and with the price hike of Disney Plus, Disney fans REALLY NEEDED the D23 Expo to deliver the magic! As such, it’s no surprise that Disney revealed loads of new things coming to Disney Parks, Disney Cruise Line, and even Disney+ in the coming years. If you’re planning to travel with Disney in the next several years there’s a lot to look forward to. From 100th Anniversary Celebrations to a brand new Disney Cruise Ship here’s the list of all the changes on the way.

100th Anniversary Celebrations for 100 Years of Wonder

Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company Disney is pulling out all the stops for the anniversary on October 16, 2023. California’s Disneyland Resort is the platinum hub of the 100th Anniversary with evenings of live entertainment and a whole new Fireworks Show. #Disney100

Wondrous Journeys Disneyland

Wondrous Journeys Fireworks Show | Disneyland 2023

The newest fireworks show in the works for Disneyland Park is Wondrous Journeys. This magical fireworks show features a brand new song called “It’s Wondrous,” and replaces Disneyland Forever, which had been running since May 2015.  Opening Late January 2023

World of Color Disneyland

World of Color One | Disney’s California Adventure Park 2023

Coming also to Disney’s California Adventure is a new nighttime spectacular, special to the 100th Anniversary, to “showcase all new inspiring stories told through new favorite characters.” Opening Late January 2023

Magic Happens Parade | Disneyland 2023

Returning Spring 2023 the Magic Happens Parade floats into Disneyland Park with characters from Sword in the Stone, Moana, Chip and Dale and more! Opening Spring 2023

With a wave of his wand, Mickey Mouse leads a cavalcade of fabulous floats, whimsically costumed performers and popular Disney pals like Anna, Elsa and Olaf around the park and into your hearts—all while moving to a high-energy musical score that puts a contemporary spin on classic Disney hits. In addition, a brand-new song co-composed by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall helps bring some of your favorite Disney tales to life like never before.

The parade features several distinct “stories,” with a delightful mix of characters. Watch Moana ride the crest of a beautiful wave in her voyager canoe, followed by Coco’s guitar-strumming Miguel, who’s joined by his dog Danté and other fantastical spirit animals.

Behold the enchanted forest from Frozen 2, as Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven pass by. Then prepare for the grandest finale of all as the parade commemorates memorable story moments from Sleeping Beauty and other Disney classics. It’s an incredible procession not to be missed!

Walt and Mickey Statue | Hong Kong Disneyland

As part of Disney’s 100th Anniversary Worldwide, Hong Kong Disneyland is installing a brand new statue featuring Walt Disney and Mickey.

New Nighttime Spectacular | EPCOT

Announced for EPCOT is a new nighttime spectacular show replacing Harmonious running through the 50th Anniversary celebrations until March 31, 2023. This new show aims to unite guests around the World Showcase Lagoon. Opening Late 2023

Happily Ever After Song with NEW Fireworks Show | Magic Kingdom

Replacing Enchantment Fireworks Show, special for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary, Magic Kingdom gets a new Nighttime spectacular. The brand new fireworks show will feature the song Happily Ever After, previously used in the Happily Ever After Fireworks Show at Magic Kingdom. Enchantment completes at the end of March 2023. Opening April 2023

TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park

TRON Lightcycle /Run | Magic Kingdom

The biggest news coming to Disney Parks involved TRON. This light cycle roller coaster in the heart of Tomorrowland is perfect for thrill seekers. And much like Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom, you don’t need to know anything about the movie to enjoy this ride. A double bike roller coaster, this one weaves in and out of spaces glowing with light, as team blue challenges team orange. Part of Disney’s Tomorrowland re-imagining. Opening Spring 2023

Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ Restaurant | Hollywood Studios

This new table service restaurant in Toy Story Land was “built” using Andy’s Wild Wild West Playset. Complete with Rodeo, and storefronts, Woody’s Roundup Rodeo BBQ Restaurant will include larger-than-life toy decor, a wild west barbecue menu, and Woody and Jessie on hand for rodeo fun. Already open is Jesse’s Trading Post gift shop as part of the playset in Toy Story Land. Opening 2022

Model of Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana coming to EPCOT

This new green space in EPCOT is filled with plants, trees, and interactive living water elements. You can expect fountains, waterfalls, and a land full of calm and magic. Inspired by the colors, elements, and theme of Moana, you can walk through the trails in this new space in EPCOT’s World Nature area. Complete with a 16-foot-tall Te-Fiti green sculpture that has interactive waterfall elements. Opening Late 2023

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Splash Mountain is getting a refurbishment and being changed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This new Princess and the Frog experience takes you down to the bayou, with Tiana and Ray. Preparing for Mardi Gras you can expect a complete redesign in this ride, from new scenes to new songs. This is still a water ride, of course, and sure to pay homage to New Orleans, southern culture, and everything we love from Princess and the Frog. Opening Late 2024 

Dinoland Re-Imagining | Animal Kingdom

While ideas for both Zootopia and Moana were shared at the D23 EXPO 2022 as ideas for a Dinoland, neither was confirmed. And more ideas are surely on the way before any final decisions are made. Ideas regarding an animal city featuring Zootopia characters or Moana featuring creatures of the deep were shared as concept drawings. But, nothing more was shared. How the area will be rethemed thoughtfully and with what attractions currently doesn’t have a timeline. One thing is for sure; demolition of certain spaces in Dinoland will begin once a plan is established. Opening Unknown

The Hatbox Ghost

Hatbox Ghost Arrives at Haunted Mansion| Magic Kingdom

The classic Hatbox Ghost, currently found in Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, is being added to Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World. This larger-than-life character features a ghost whose head magically disappears from his neck and reappears in his hatbox. Arriving 2023

“Walt the Dreamer” Statue

Dreamers Point “Walt the Dreamer” Statue | EPCOT

Originally shared at D23 EXPO 2019 as part of the EPCOT re-imagining, this amazing bronze statue features the Walt Disney Company’s biggest dreamer, Walt Disney himself. Situated right behind Spaceship Earth, this statue offers a great photo spot and a timeless way to honor Walt during EPCOT Park’s 40th Anniversary. Arriving 2022

Figment Character Meet and Greet | EPCOT

Returning to Walt Disney World is EPCOT’s star character, Figment the dragon. Figment is set to be available for character meet and greets for a limited time. Most likely in honor of EPCOT’s anniversary.  Arriving 2023

“What If” Idea Blue Sky Concepts Magic Kingdom| Walt Disney World

As part of what appeared to be a brainstorming session and some ideas shared by the Imagineers, Chairman Josh D’Amaro showed concept art for the space beyond Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom Park. Ideas featuring Disney Villains, Coco, and Encanto were all part of the share. None had concrete plans, rides, or timelines. Not much was seen here, save concept drawings, but offered D23 EXPO fans something to look forward to, even with the unknown timeline. Opening Unknown

The much-awaited news of runDisney has finally happened! Returning for the 2024 season, runDisney comes back to Disneyland Resort Parks. Keep an eye on our continually updated runDisney Events page for all the news of both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort races.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway | Disneyland Park

While Walt Disney World already opened Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Disneyland’s version is in the works in its takeover of the El Capitoon Theater in Disneyland’s Toontown. Set to follow the same storyline as the one at Disney World, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a fun update to Disneyland’s slew of rides. Opening Early 2023

Toontown Reimagining | Disneyland Park

Welcoming more green spaces and opportunities to interact with this land, Toontown is getting a makeover. 2023 sees refurbishments and extra fun added to The Gadget’s Go Coaster, Donald’s Boat, and Goofy’s House. Even El CapiTOON Theater has a new installation featuring a special exhibit created by the Toontown Hysterical Society for celebrating all things, Mickey! Steamboat Willie, Mickey’s Christmas Carol, and Plane Crazy all have props in this space worth remembering! The new Toontown also includes Goofy’s How to Play Yard with interactive elements encouraging play. Opening Early 2023

Eudora’s Chic Boutique | Disneyland Park

Coming to New Orleans’ Square is a new retail store called Eudora’s Chic Boutique. showcasing Tiana’s work with her dressmaker mother to offer “accessories to create and serve masterful Orlean’s -Style cuisine and more”. Opening September 20, 2022

Pixar Place Hotel | California Adventure Park

The Pixar Animation Studios-themed hotel in California Adventure is “where you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into a Pixar art gallery featuring new interpretations of favorite Pixar pals.” Following the Pixar stories beloved by fans, this hotel is set to become a family hotel complete with a Finding Nemo splash pad. This hotel was previously Pixar Pier Hotel and is undergoing a major renovation. The restaurant “Great Maple” is part of this re-imagining as the brand’s flagship restaurant on the first floor of the Pixar Place Hotel. And for film fans, Pixar Place Hotel features modular elements that allow for new films to be brought in as they are released. This hotel includes an exclusive pathway that allows guests direct access to Disney’s California Adventure. Opening TBD

San Fransokyo California Adventure

Pacific Wharf Re-Imagining to San Fransokyo 

FINALLY arriving at Disney’s US Parks is a substantial nod Big Hero Six Baymax. Pacific Wharf at Disney’s California Adventure is getting a complete overhaul as part of the effort. While we don’t know if there will be a ride, or attraction as part of Disney’s California Adventure San Fransokyo, we can definitely plan on Baymax Meet and Greet character location, shops, and restaurants to support the new vibe of Baymax’s hometown. Opening TBD

King Thanos

King Thanos Attraction | Disneyland Avengers Campus

The newest addition to Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort brings the Avenger’s most dangerous villain to the forefront, King Thanos! All part of the Multiverse expansion in the park, this new ride allows guests to team up with the Avengers to battle the bad guys. Opening TBD 

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Mando and Grogu Meet and Greet | Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

Arriving at Disneyland Park in mid-November guests can meet Mando from The Mandalorian and the brand new interactive Baby Yoda ( Grogu) as part of the interaction! Arriving mid-November 2022 

The Incredible Hulk | Disneyland Avengers Campus

For a limited time, Marvel fans can meet The Incredible Hulk, completely decked out in his Quantum suit. Just head to Avengers Campus soon to get a look at this larger-than-life character! Opening September 2022

Porto’s Bakery & Café | Downtown Disney

This Southern California Bakery is coming to Downtown Disney serving up delicate pastries, cookies, and Cuban food. Check out Portos Bakery and Cafe Menu to see all the goodies on the way. Opening TBD 

Din Tai Fung | Downtown Disney 

This Asian restaurant hails from Taiwan and specializes in soup dumplings, and authentic Taiwanese cuisine. Opening TBD

Disney Treasure Cruise Ship 

The newest cruise ship to join Disney Cruise Line is the Disney Treasure! A ship focused on adventure, the sixth ship features Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Magic Carpet in the lobby, and a gilded great hall. The boat is decorated in deep blues, turquoise, and gold. Themed with inspiration from adventurous places like Aladdin’s “Agrabah”, Asia, and Africa.  The name reveal video feature also featured Peter Pan, no doubt a big part of this new adventurous ship. The Disney Treasure joins the Disney Wish Cruise Ship as the second in the trio of “Triton Class” ships coming to Disney Cruise Line. Sailing 2024

Disney Wonder Re-Positioning | South Pacific

The Disney Wonder Ship is set to sail to Fiji, Samoa, or New Zealand as part of the expanded ports of call with Disney Cruise Line. Sailing to New Destinations 2023

Lighthouse Point Port of Call | Eleuthera Bahamas

Originally announced in 2019, Disney’s newest private island highlights Bahamian culture, conservation, and a focus on the natural environment. Lighthouse Point includes places to dine, shop, and swim. As well as youth-activity and adult-only areas. Opening TBD 2024

Frozen land Disneyland Paris

New at Disneyland Paris

The Land “will be the next major milestone in the ongoing transformation of Walt Disney Studios park. This land will offer a gorgeous lakeside promenade and will immerse guests in the same magical wintry setting from the films.”

Pixar: We Belong Together Show | Walt Disney Studios Park

As the Grand Finale of Disneyland Paris 30th Anniversary, this Pixar-themed show features Monsters Inc characters and more fan favorites. Opening 2023

Frozen-Themed Land | Walt Disney Studios Park

As part of Disneyland Paris’ continued expansion, a Frozen-themed land features a boat ride, and sits adjacent to the new Tangled area, featuring a new Tangled attraction. Opening 2023

English Gardens | Walt Disney Studios Park

The new English garden section of Disneyland Paris features a gazebo and both Peter Pan and Mary Poppins Elements. Opening 2023

New at Tokyo Disney Sea 

Fantasy Springs

This new area at Tokyo Disney Sea features three themed lands, complete with beautiful themeing, rides, restaurants, shops and gardens. Opening 2023

Frozen Area: Currently, untitled the newest planned area for Disneyland Paris includes an Arendelle area featuring Frozen storefronts and a ride.

Tangled Area: The Tangled area features a water ride and Rapunzel’s tower set inside a beautiful garden-filled setting. This area also has a restaurant inspired by the hideout of humorous thugs. 

Peter Pan Area: The Peter Pan area will feature Pixie Hollow! Complete with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell attractions in Neverland at Tokyo Disney Sea.

Deluxe Disney Hotel | Fantasy Springs

New to Tokyo Disney Sea is a beautiful Hotel with “magical springs that serve as the core of the new themed port’s story.” The Fantasy Springs Hotel features a variety of room types, a gift shop, 2 restaurants, and a lounge.

Set for refurbishment, Space Mountain at Tokyo Disney Sea is undergoing some changes that will still honor the ride’s main silhouette and enhance the evening lightning in the area. Opening 2027

World of Frozen Hong Kong Disneyland

World of Frozen is an expansive new land at Hong Kong Disneyland and features animatronics in the latest technology. Opening Second Half of 2023

Zootopia Central Station

New at Shanghai Disneyland 

Zootopia

As part of Shanghai Disneyland’s 5th Anniversary, the newest land inside Shanghai Disneyland was shared. Zootopia Central Station features buildings with “animal homes” that require different-sized doors and elements specific to each animal. The area includes rides, restaurants, and some of the most sophisticated animatronics by Disney so far. Opening 2023

What Wasn’t Talked About at D23 EXPO

While there is a slew of things happening at Disney Parks Worldwide, we noticed quite a few things that were simply not shared. Cancellation of previous announcements or wishful thinking for certain projects to finally move forward, make up this list. Let us know what we’ve missed. Or what you were looking forward to.

Opening Dates for Walt Disney World Railroad, Fantasmic, Hey Disney Launch, and EPCOT festival dates for 2023 were also all excluded from the Parks Panel share.
