All About Hollywood Studios at Disney World
Once known as Disney MGM Studios Park, Hollywood Studios is a Disney theme park honoring movies. And not just any movies, either. Some of the best films ever made are honored here. You can find Star Wars in Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story, Indiana Jones, Frozen, and even the Muppets are all found here. Add in the Classic Hollywood vibe on Sunset Boulevard, and the Tower of Terror, and as Disney’s 2nd smallest park, you’ll find plenty to do. Whether you’re cramming this park into one day or a week, here are all the things you need to know before you go. Including the things to do, see and eat at Hollywood Studios Park.
Hollywood Studios Park Tickets
To get started lets talk Hollywood Studios Park Tickets. While Disney World tickets are not specific to each of the four theme parks, you simply need buy a WDW ticket and it will get you into any of the four theme parks: EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom. In fact, if you’re hoping to try for two or more parks in one day, you simply need add the Park Hopper Ticket to your purchase, and voila! Purchase a Hollywood Studios Park Ticket or Disney Vacation Package to get your Disney Vacation plans started.
Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane Ticket Add Ons
While the planning portion of Disney Genie+ is free to use within the My Disney Experience App, the ride reservation system is separate. Billed per person, per day, you have two choices when purchases this add-on to your Hollywood Studios ticket.
Purchasing Genie+ Plus allows you the option to select 2 rides for which you can skip the line, aka wait in the Lightning Lane instead of the regular line. The Lightning Lane line typically moves faster, and since you select the times you plan on returning to the ride in Genie+ Plus, helps you maximize your Disney Park Time. When you use Genie+ strategically, you select ride times in the early part of the day first, so that you can add additional rides to your account throughout the day, once those initial rides are completed. This is called “stacking” rides and can often get you onto more rides throughout the day.
Individual Lightning Lane on the other hand, while named the same as the ride line, is a for purchase individual ride option, also accessible in the app. This is specific to only certain popular rides. In Hollywood Studios the Individual Lightning Lane is Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. Also available via standby line, this is Hollywood Studios most popular ride!
Hollywood Studios Hours
Hollywood Studios Hours are typically 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This doesn’t include Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours. As a result be sure to check out the Up to Date Hours and Event Schedules on the Disney 5 Day Calendar. Or on the My Disney Experience App, which you should have downloaded on your phone prior to your vacation.
- Early Entry Hours ( when offered): 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM
- Hollywood Studios Daytime Hours: 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM
- Extended Evening Hours ( when offered): 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Early Morning Entry and Extended Evening Hours
Early Entry Hours are available to Disney Resort Guests and allows guests to enter the park 30 minutes prior to park opening. To make the most of your extra time, we recommend arriving at the park gates, at least 30 minutes before your Early Theme Park Entry time. While some of the Hollywood Studios sections may not be open, it still gets you close to the action to get into lines early, or just enjoy the park.
Extended Evening Hours
Available to Disney Deluxe Resort Guests, the Extended Evening Hours allow you to stay an hour or two after the park closes. This is also a huge perk for guests interested in riding the popular rides that may be full during the day. Rides like Slinky Dog Dash, Star Wars Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror are excellent options for an evening ride, if you’re in the park during one of the days when this perk is offered.
What is the Best Day to Visit Hollywood Studios?
Wednesdays and Fridays are typically the best days to visit Hollywood Studios. Mainly because Epcot tends to be the Friday night hot spot. But since it is within walking distance of Hollywood Studios we do expect that Fridays here will become busier. As with all the parks visiting during the daytime on weekdays is best. And avoid weekends. Check out the full post on the Best Days to Visit Walt Disney World for a sample itinerary.
What is the Busiest Day at Hollywood Studios?
The busiest day at Hollywood Studios is Monday. With Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday following close behind. The crowd levels on Mondays tend to be higher across all Disney World Parks. This is due to the fact that many people begin their Disney vacation on Mondays and head straight to their park of choice.
- Sunday is the busiest day at every Walt Disney World Park.
- Saturday the second busiest.
- Monday the third busiest.
- Friday the fourth busiest.
How Many Days Do you Need at Hollywood Studios?
Hollywood Studios is a 1-Day Park. As a smaller park, you can typically fit in the most important rides and shows into a one day visit. However, keep in mind that your day will be packed if you’re hoping to get in all the shows. Priorities at Hollywood Studios include Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Star Tours and Muppets 3-D. Keep in mind those are just the rides. Shows to see include Wonderful World of Animation, Frozen Sing Along, Beauty and the Beast Live On Stage and Fantasmic. Again, while you can definitely fit Hollywood Studios into One Day, if you’re hoping to see everything, you may want to consider 2-days.
Hollywood Studios Capacity
As Disney World’s second Smallest Park, Hollywood Studios generally feels crowded as soon as noon hits. As such Hollywood Studios Capacity Levels are monitored closely to improve Guest Experience. Hollywood Studios can hold about 60,000 people a day, but typically sees 30,000 visitors per day. Check out our Disney World Maximum Capacity Post for details on each park.
Places at Hollywood Studios to Take Breaks
Since Hollywood Studios days are typically long days, so that you can experience as much as possible, we always recommend taking breaks when you can. Whether you’re looking for a place inside Hollywood Studios to take a break, or heading to the Disney BoardWalk there are plenty of places to relax. We recommend building in break time during your Disney trip during the hottest and busiest part of the day, between 12-4 PM.
Hollywood Studios Parking and Transportation
Luckily, parking at Hollywood Studios is fairly easily, with a large parking lot located just outside the front gates. Hollywood Studios is within walking distance of Disney’s Boardwalk and the Disney Marriott Hotels nearby.
