All About Magic Kingdom Park at Disney World

Magic Kingdom is by far the most well-known park at Walt Disney World. And maybe the world. It’s got Cinderella’s Castle, the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride, and Walt’s personal creation for the 1964 World’s Fair, the Carousel of Progress. Add in the Festival of Fantasy parade, more than 20 rides, and you’ll probably be wondering what you should when you visit? With the most rides of any Disney park, there’s so much to do! How ever will you choose? Whether you’re cramming this park into one day or a week, here are all the things you need to know before you go. Including the things to do, see and eat at Magic Kingdom.

Disneyland Main Street USA

Magic Kingdom Park Tickets

To get started lets talk Magic Kingdom Park Tickets. While Disney World tickets are not specific to each of the four theme parks, you simply need buy a WDW ticket and it will get you into any of the four theme parks: EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom. In fact, if you’re hoping to try for two or more parks in one day,  you simply need add the Park Hopper Ticket to your purchase, and voila! Purchase a Magic Kingdom Park Ticket or Disney Vacation Package to get your Disney Vacation plans started.

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane Ticket Add Ons

While the planning portion of Disney Genie+ is free to use within the My Disney Experience App, the ride reservation system is separate. Billed per person, per day, you have two choices when purchases this add-on to your Magic Kingdom ticket.

Purchasing Genie+ Plus allows you the option to select 2 rides for which you can skip the line, aka wait in the Lightning Lane instead of the regular line. The Lightning Lane line typically moves faster, and since you select the times you plan on returning to the ride in Genie+ Plus, helps you maximize your Disney Park Time. When you use Genie+ strategically, you select ride times in the early part of the day first, so that you can add additional rides to your account throughout the day, once those initial rides are completed. This is called “stacking” rides and can often get you onto more rides throughout the day.

Individual Lightning Lane on the other hand, while named the same as the ride line, is a for purchase individual ride option, also accessible in the app. This is specific to only certain popular rides. In Magic Kingdom the Individual Lightning Lane Options are for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle Run.

Magic Kingdom Hours

Magic Kingdom Hours are typically 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and sometimes 11:00 PM. This doesn’t include Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours. As a result be sure to check out the Up to Date Hours and Event Schedules on the Disney 5 Day Calendar. Or on the My Disney Experience App, which you should have downloaded on your phone prior to your vacation.

  • Early Entry Hours ( when offered):8:30 AM to 9:00 AM
  • Magic Kingdom Daytime Hours: 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Extended Evening Hours ( when offered):11:00 PM to 1:00 AM

Early Morning Entry and Extended Evening Hours

Early Entry Hours are available to Disney Resort Guests and allows guests to enter the park 30 minutes prior to park opening. To make the most of your extra time, we recommend arriving at the park gates, at least 30 minutes before your Early Theme Park Entry time. While some of the Magic Kingdom Park sections may not be open, it still gets you close to the action to get into lines early, or just enjoy the park.

Extended Evening Hours

Available to Disney Deluxe Resort Guests, the Extended Evening Hours allow you to stay an hour or two after the park closes. This is also a huge perk for guests interested in riding TRON, which requires a virtual queue boarding pass. If you’re staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, you get the option, to join the 6:00 PM Virtual Queue for TRON which allows you the chance to ride the ride. Be sure to the check out the details of getting a Virtual Queue Boarding Pass for TRON, which you can access in the My Disney Experience App.

What is the Best Day to Visit Magic Kingdom?

The best days to visit Magic Kingdom are Tuesday or Thursday for lower crowd levels. Saturdays and Mondays are completely off-limits. Unless you are an avid Disney goer or used to the crowd levels you see at Christmastime, don’t even bother to try on Saturdays. As you may guess you’ll be battling for the rides, reservations, and sidewalk space with Floridians who go every weekend. Check out our complete guide on the best days to visit Walt Disney World

What is the Busiest Day at Magic Kingdom?

The busiest day at Magic Kingdom is Sunday. With Saturday, Friday, and Monday following close behind. The crowd levels on these days are due to the heavy influx of local Disney Annual Passholders, combined with both incoming and outgoing family vacationers to the parks.

  • Sunday is the busiest day at every Walt Disney World Park.
  • Saturday the second busiest.
  • Monday the third busiest.
  • Friday the fourth busiest.

How Many Days Do you Need at Magic Kingdom?

Magic Kingdom is a 2-Day Park. With over 20 rides, multiple shows, the Festival of Fantasy parade, Happily Ever After Fireworks Show, and performances like the Dapper Dans, and the Trolley Dancers, you will need at least 2 days at Magic Kingdom to fit it all in. And even then, you may still not get to everything. While you can definitely fit Magic Kingdom into One Day, you won’t get to ride everything, and most likely not see the range of shows, parade, and fireworks offered.

Magic Kingdom Capacity

As Disney World’s Smallest Park, Magic Kingdom generally feels crowded. As such Magic Kingdom Capacity Levels are monitored closely to improve Guest Experience. Magic Kingdom can hold between 85,000- 100,000 people a day, but typically sees 60,000 visitors per day. Check out our Disney World Maximum Capacity Post for details on each park.

Places at Magic Kingdom to Take Breaks

Since Magic Kingdom days are typically long days, so that you can experience as much as possible, we always recommend taking breaks when you can. Whether you’re looking for a place inside Magic Kingdom to take a break, or heading just outside the park to a Monorail Resort, there are plenty of places to relax. We recommend building in break time during your Disney trip during the hottest and busiest part of the day, between 12-4 PM.

Magic Kingdom Tomorrowland Rides

Magic Kingdom Parking and Transportation

By far one of the most confusing parts of Magic Kingdom is the parking. Unlike the other parks, Magic Kingdom does not have it’s own parking lot just outside the gates. Instead Magic Kingdom’s parking lot is located at the TTC ( Ticket and Transportation Center). The address to the TTC is 1180 Seven Seas Drive, Orlando, FL 32836. If you type Magic Kingdom into your GPS, you will show up at the front gates, where you are not allowed to park, and where only Disney buses are allowed.

From the TTC: If driving and parking there is a ginormous lot at the TTC that is separated into Hero’s and Villains sections. Keep track of where you park your car folks. Take a picture of the nearest lamp post/sign…anything that will help you find the car at midnight. From here you can catch the parking lot tram to the TTC monorail station and TTC Ferry Boat Dock. Magic Kingdom is one of the stops on the monorail line. Of course, you can also catch the boat from the TTC if you’re looking for an easy lazy boat ride instead of the super-fast monorail.

From the Monorail: Hop on at any stop on the monorail. Make sure you go on the Magic Kingdom Monorail and not the Epcot Monorail. Magic Kingdom is accessible right from the monorail so please stand clear of the doors. Por favor, mantangase alejado de los puertas.

From the Boat: There is a boat that goes to and from Magic Kingdom that is accessible from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. You can also catch the large ferry from the TTC.

By Disney Bus: The Disney bus can pick you up from your Disney Resort and bring you to the Magic Kingdom Bus Depot.

Magic Kingdom Rides & Attractions

Magic Kingdom has the most rides and attractions of all the Disney Parks. As such, if you’re hoping to ride many of them, it’s important to have a Disney Ride Strategy. Be sure to save the busiest rides for morning or evening magic hours. Don’t waste a Genie+ Lightning Lane at these times, unless it’s for a popular ride, as fewer people in the parks mean a much shorter wait at rides. However, you’ll want to plan our your Magic Kingdom day to get in the things you care about most. Check out the Best Rides at Disney World, for a rundown of favorites to build in to your Magic Kingdom Must Do Days.

Quick Service Restaurants in Magic Kingdom

Of all the parks, Magic Kingdom tends to serve the most “theme park quality” food. Consisting of hamburgers, corn dogs, pizza, and tacos, it’s tough to find really great here. As such be sure to check out our Best Quick Service Restaurants in Magic Kingdom so you only pick the good places to grab a bit.

Table Service Restaurants in Magic Kingdom

Our favorite place to eat at Magic Kingdom is Liberty Tree Tavern. And while we love a Thanksgiving inspired meal as much as the rest of them, it just goes to show the limited options for Table Service Restaurants in Magic Kingdom. A runner up option here would be Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, where you can at least count on a phenomenal pizza, among it’s many menu changes. Other places in Magic Kingdom are overpriced, and with lackluster food quality. Be Our Guest has a limited menu and Cinderella’s Royal Table is overpriced. A shining star here, may be the Breakfast at Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends, but again, it’s difficult to mess up eggs and Mickey waffles. If you’re looking for an excellent sit down restaurants at Magic Kingdom, we’re recommend leaving the park and heading to a Monorail Resort instead.
