Mobile checkout is just as it states. You check yourself out with the use of your mobile phone. It’s super easy and fast and will save you a ton of time. We don’t love wasting time in any type of line really, and checking out at a gift shop is no different.
Dealing with the crowds at Walt Disney World
Walt Disney World has become increasingly busy as of late. No matter what time of year you go, there really is no “off-season” anymore. Sure, you can plan to travel during lower times, but long gone are the days of empty parks with low wait times. Walt Disney World is really as magical as you make it; so if crowds aren’t your thing, and you don’t want to spend that precious time waiting in a line, this is one feature we love. We’ve used mobile checkout several times and find it especially useful for those times when the Emporium is packed and we just want to get out of there. If you’ve ever shopped at the Emporium right before Magic Kingdom closes, you’ll know what we are talking about!
What shops offer mobile checkout at Walt Disney World?
Mobile checkout is still in the testing phase throughout the Parks at Walt Disney World. And as of right now, there are only a few places that offer it. We hope that as time goes on though, more shops will be added. Currently, you can use mobile checkout at the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, Creations at Epcot, and World of Disney at Disney Springs. However, Mickey’s of Hollywood in Hollywood Studios and Island Mercantile at Animal Kingdom are both supposed to launch the service soon.
How does Mobile Checkout work?
Mobile Checkout is very easy to use! You will need to have the My Disney Experience App on your phone, which you should have anyway if you’re visiting the Parks. You’ll also need a credit card attached to your account. You scan the items and pay right through the app. Then you’ll check in with a cast member who will verify your purchase and you’re on your way! We will share the step-by-step below.
How to use Mobile Checkout at Walt Disney World
Again this is only available in certain shops. If the shop is offering mobile checkout, there will be signs around the store stating this. You’ll start by scanning the QR code on one of these signs, which will open up the My Disney Experience app or site. A little box will pop up and you can start scanning! Just scan each item you want to purchase, and then you’ll hit checkout when finished. Discounts such as an Annual Passholder or Disney Vacation Club discount will be applied for you. Be sure to have these memberships linked in your account and they will be automatically applied. If for some reason it doesn’t show up, you can ask a cast member for help. But we’ve used mobile checkout several times and it’s always come up automatically.
Once you’ve gone through checkout and paid for your purchase, you’ll get a QR code. And then, head to one of the Mobile Checkout exit stations. Here you will show your QR code to a cast member who will verify your purchases, and this is also where you can get a bag for your items, or get fragile items wrapped if needed.
Who can use Mobile checkout?
Anyone can use mobile checkout! As long as you have a My Disney Experience account and the app on your phone, you can use this feature.
Can you use gift cards with Mobile Checkout?
Yes! Just make sure the gift card is linked in the My Disney Experience app and you can use that to pay for your items.
Overall, mobile checkout can save you time. And you can be doing more of what you want at Walt Disney World! There are definitely times when we will still be purchased at the register, but for busier times, we think it’s a great option! Have you used mobile checkout at Walt Disney World before?
