Coronado Springs Resort

Staying at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort

Disney’s Coronado Springs gets a lot of mixed reviews. And trust us, we get it! Between the resort being so large and the number of conferences that are held here each year, it’s not always at the top of the list for many people. Coronado Springs also has bus only transportation to the resorts, which can be a bit of a pain. Especially during higher crowd seasons, like Spring Break and Christmas.

But in spite of all of those things, we love this resort. The improvement in onsite restaurants over the last few years makes this an easy one to spend a day at. The coffee bar at Barcelona Lounge makes the resort feel more elevated. And Disney has been adding smaller improvements around the resort that make it feel more complete. Nightly campfires and s’mores. Giant chess sets. New and improved hammocks for relaxing in the beach areas. The resort has really had quite the glow up in recent times. And we think it deserves a bit more attention than it generally gets.

Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs

Opening in 2019, Gran Destino Tower has taken on a life of its own. Though Coronado Springs is a moderate resort, Gran Destino Tower definitely gives you Deluxe resort vibes.  Guests staying in Gran Destino Tower can even opt to reserve a room with club level status, and Coronado Springs is the only moderate resort that offers that.

Home to Barcelona Lounge and one of our favorite table service restaurants, Toledo, you can almost make this a destination all on its own.

Although the Deluxe suites at Gran Destino Tower aren’t technically considered one bedroom suite, they kind of are. There is a main “living” portion of the room, and a bedroom that closes off from the rest of the room.  The windows are large making the room feel quite airy. And the decor matches the rest of Gran Destino Tower. With bright, bold colors and subtle hidden mickeys throughout.

The Deluxe Suites at Grand Destino Tower are bright, clean and spacious. I actually think this room is larger than the last apartment I lived in! It’s pretty big! In the main room, there’s a queen size sleeper sofa, a couple of chairs, a desk, TV a small beverage cooler and a half bathroom. The bedroom offers a king size bed in the main bedroom, which has a sliding door that closes off from the rest of the room. In the main bedroom is the full bathroom. And this is separated into a vanity area and shower/toilet area. There’s also a TV in the main bedroom, so if you’re traveling with another party, or just someone who wants to watch something different than you, you can!

Our room actually had a slight view of Spaceship Earth, which was cool because at night we could watch Harmonious, the Epcot fireworks show at the time we stayed here. It was a nice way to end a long day, and we never got tired of it. Gran Destino Tower has always felt like a deluxe resort at moderate prices. And though the prices for this room are considerably more than most moderate rooms, there is still that deluxe feeling.

Is the deluxe suite at Gran Destino Tower good for families?

Yes! I would say of all the room types that aren’t villas, the deluxe suites at Coronado Springs are some of the best rooms at Walt Disney World for families. With a door that separates the room from the living space, parents can easily stay up past their kid’s bedtimes. And wake up before their children. Best of all, having more than one bathroom is such a great amenity for families traveling, and is something you don’t often get at Walt Disney World!

Is the deluxe suite at Gran Destino Tower worth the price?

As with all questions of things being “worth it”, that depends! You can sometimes find these rooms on a pretty good discount. At full price, you’re looking at a fairly hefty price tag, no matter the time of year. But this room type can only be booked as a Club Level room. So, if you’re taking full advantage of what Club Level offers, this can technically save you a little bit of money. Maybe it evens out, or at least adds a little more value to the space. You can learn all about what club level at Coronado Springs includes here, and see if it may be a good option for your traveling party.

On the flip side, this room type still only sleeps 4 adults, so it’s not going to give you the occupancy even of a Family Suite say at Art of Animation or All-Star Music. So, it really depends on what you’re looking for and what would make your trip more comfortable.

If you’re more of an at the Parks all day kind of person, the extra cost of comfort here may not be worth it.

Deluxe Suites at Gran Destino Tower Review

The deluxe suites at Gran Destino Tower are spacious and well-appointed. They have plenty of storage and plenty of places to sit. And have a distinct separation from the main room and the bedroom. While these may not be a great choice if you’re planning to spend all day in the Parks, we found them to be super comfortable for those who may want to spend some time at the resort. We had planned to have some time at the resort anyway. And since this room type is only available to book as a club-level room, this worked out perfectly for the type of stay we were planning to have.

The layout is definitely different than you’d find in a one-bedroom suite. But for many guests, whether traveling as a family or as an adult’s trip to Disney, having a door that closes off from the main area can be a huge game changer. For some people, it can be the difference between having to get two separate rooms or just one larger one. We love that there is more than one bathroom in these rooms, which makes getting ready in the mornings a breeze. And having two televisions is great for parties who may want to split up as the night goes on.  The king bed was super comfortable, and the couch bed was a little less so. But I feel like that’s probably typical for most sofa beds.

Since we mostly work from our laptops, the workspace is super convenient, and not something you’ll find in all resort rooms at Walt Disney World.

Overall, we really loved the Deluxe Suites at Gran Destino Tower! The room was comfortable and gave us plenty of room to relax. Our room was close to the elevators making it super easy to get to Chronos Club in the mornings. Definitely recommend giving these rooms a try if you’re looking to elevate your stay.
