5 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day Apart

5 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day Apart

Being unable to see Mom is tough. But, there are ways to still make her day Extra Special, even if you have to stay physically apart. Being part of a big family with weekly gatherings, its been especially difficult to adjust to the absence of each other. Even more so when our beloved holidays get caught up in the drama!!! Where we usually plan extensive menus, drink lists and game plans we’re now trying to figure out how to say it in a note, call or mail delivery. If you’re feeling at a loss, here are 5 ways we’ve come up with to help us Celebrate Mother’s Day apart from Mom.

Skype or Call!

Sometimes it just helps to hear your voice. If your mama is not shut in with you during this time, give her a call and spend some time chatting. Talk about your favorite shows, the pets, the kids, whatever. If you’re in the same town, you could even drive over and chat from the yard while she sits on the porch. Social media has been flooded with families sharing everything from new babies to birthdays divided by a window just so that we can all get a glimpse of our loved ones.

In the days of being on the no-call list, and non-stop texting, we sometimes forget that phone calls once upon a time were actually an amazing (and fulfilling) way to reach out to someone! Don’t underestimate the power of an hour long phone call to mom on Mother’s Day.

Send Her Food!

Food is a HUGE part of every family get together for us. So, naturally , it’s the first thing we think of that by all means MUST BE SENT TO MOM! Blame it on an Italian grandmother who fed us constantly, even in between meals.  Since you can’t be there to cook a special mother’s day meal, maybe send her a nice breakfast from Panera or from any place with food delivery! If you have time on your hands or want to make it a little more special, you can craft a meal and send it. If you’re looking for something more farm to table, order fresh veggies from the grocer and pull together a Ratatouille box. Eggplant, zucchini, pepper, onions, and herbs are all you really need. And you can print out our Remy’s Ratatouille Recipe Card below to makes a cute and thoughtful gift.

Send Her Something To Do!

While some Moms have gotten good at self care at relaxing, most moms we know are still itching to take care of things! So why not give them something to play with while you’re away. Some mindfulness coloring sheets , an herb growing kit, or a new craft could be exactly what she needs to keep herself busy without you. Give Mom something to look forward to!

Thankfully at one point we’ll all be able to see each other again, in closer proximity than 6 feet apart. When that time comes, what can you and Mom do together? Maybe plant a garden, build something, redecorate something, celebrate a birthday or holiday together! Whatever it is, sending along something that will remind your mom that all this is temporary and that you’ll all be together soon does the soul good.
