The Best Disney Christmas Books for the Holidays

The Best Disney Christmas Books for the Holidays

We LOVE Disney books. We love books to read, collect, analyze and share! So we just had to share our absolute favorite Disney Christmas Books for the holidays! Now, we’ll admit there are some books here that are not officially “Disney” but we know all Disney fans will love them just the same! Here are all our favorite Christmas Books to add to your Disney Bookshelf or someone else’s this holiday season!!!

Christmas Books to Read Every Year

As die-hard Christmas fans, we go crazy during the holidays. We often joke that we mainly work jobs for 9 months to help fund the last 3 months filled with holidays. Whether it’s new ingredients we need for yet another Disney Recipe, loads of gifts we suddenly need to buy, or making even more Christmas designs, we definitely go overboard. Every holiday season. And the need for Disney Christmas Books is no exception. We look forward to building our holiday book collection every year and have some tried and true favorites we actually read on repeat through the season! Twas the Night Before Christmas, A Christmas Carol, and The Nutcracker are favorites and make perfect stories to read before bed on a cold winter’s night.

Disney Christmas Books to Read and Share

So, if you’re looking for some old and new favorites to add to your own Christmas Book Collection, here is a lineup of Disney Christmas Books we absolutely love. (Plus a few books that are not Disney but absolutely make our must-have list!)

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Probably the most known of the Christmas stories, this classic by Clement C. Moore has many, many, many variations. If you’re looking for something exquisitely illustrated try this bestselling Twas the Night Before Christmas edition. Or of course, we always like something a little more unique and fun so have our Roger Duvoison’s Twas the Night Before Christmas book out all season. Our favorite version of this classic tale about Santa on Christmas Eve is Mr. Boddington’s Twas the Night Before Christmas. With gold accents, and adorable artwork, it’s a collectible you’ll want to read every year.

Olaf’s Night Before Christmas

Blame it on Josh Gad’s amazing voice, but we can’t get enough of Olaf. As quirky, and ridiculous as our favorite little snowman is, Olaf has insight that we could only hope for. And in Olaf’s Night Before Christmas, he gets a whole new adventure with a stranger in a red wintry suit! Perfect for Frozen fans, and a little more whimsy to your holiday.

Walt Disney’s Santa’s Toy Shop

This classic Walt Disney Christmas story is all about the big guy in red and his little workshop up north! Walt Disney’s Santa’s Toy Shop Little Golden Book is inspired by the 1933 Silly Symphonies cartoon called Santa’s Toys and evokes the same kind of fun illustrations, and magically found in the cartoon. Thankfully in its umpteenth printing, you can grab this vintage classic on amazon for less than 5 bucks!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Dr. Seuss may not be owned by Disney, but true fans recognize this kind of magic anywhere! The redemption of a formerly grumpy cave dweller is just the kind of holiday feels we Disney fans love. An absolute classic to read, the How the Grinch Stole Christmas book is a must for the holidays and teaches us something new every time we see it! Be sure to make time to watch the classic Christmas cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas too.

Phineas and Ferb Not a Creature Was Stirring

After becoming somewhat addicted to Perry the Platypus on Phineas and Ferb we were thrilled to find a Christmas book featuring our favorite animal spy. In Phineas and Ferb Not a Creature was Stirring Perry is tasked with saving Christmas from Doofenshmirtz’s dastardly plans! A super fun addition for anyone who loves Phineas and Ferb.

Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas

The perfect holiday story for any little girl, Fancy Nancy’s Splendiferous Christmas by Jane O’Connor shows what the holidays can really be, even when perfectly laid plans go awry! A great story for both kids and grown-ups and a beautiful book ( with glitter on the dust jacket) to keepsake.

Mickey’s Christmas Carol

If there is one story on this list that is a MUST-HAVE, we’ll admit that Mickey’s Christmas Carol Little Golden Book is. Our general obsession with all things Christmas is in no small part to us watching and re-watching Mickey’s Christmas Carol every year since our childhood. We’ve even written a whole post just about the Life lessons of Mickey’s Christmas Carol.

Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Christmas

Frankly, we couldn’t have a Disney Christmas Book post without Winnie the Pooh. We include something Winnie the Pooh in all our Disney Books posts because he’s simply our favorite silly ‘ol bear. Disney’s Winnie the Pooh’s Christmas finds Pooh Bear distraught because he has forgotten to get presents for his friends! But if we know Pooh, he’ll figure this out, just like he always does.

Nightmare Before Christmas Book for the Holiday

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Absolutely one of our favorite Disney Christmas stories, The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton is something we read and watch every year. Jack Skellington’s journey to Christmas Land to discover what’s missing in his life is a similar journey we all take! Our favorite Pumpkin King may be doubting his life purpose in Halloween Town, but thankfully finds his own way to his true calling. Check out our  Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Night post to get a few ideas for snacks and a cozy Disney Movie night in!

Christmas Gift Books for the Holidays

Everything I need to Know about Christmas I learned from a Little Golden Book

This “Everything I Know” series from Little Golden Books also has a place in our favorite Disney Books for Adults post. And this book about Christmas combines our favorite lessons with our favorite Little Golden Book Christmas Stories. This is the perfect book for grown-ups who need to be reminded about the Magic of Christmas and kids who need to learn it’s more than just presents. Grab Everything I need to Know about Christmas I learned from a Little Golden Book by Diane Muldrow for your Christmas collection.

My First Disney Christmas Bedtime Storybook

We’ll be honest, we don’t love the compilation books Disney ( and every other publisher) does for kids. You know the ones. Those books smash about 20 stories into a book but then shorten every single story so they all actually fit. We are not fans. BUT…the compilation collections in the Disney “Bedtime Storybook” collections are pretty great. And make a great first Disney book for toddlers! If you’re looking for a book that touches on a couple of Disney stories and will make a cute addition to your collection, grab My First Disney Christmas Bedtime Storybook for sweet holiday stories the kids will love.

The Muppets Christmas Carol The Illustrated Classic

The Muppets Christmas Carol is one of our favorite renditions of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol. With Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge and the entire Muppets Cast in tow for a musical version of A Christmas Carol, what’s not to like? And now you can grab this story in graphic novel form! The Muppet Christmas Carol: The Illustrated Holiday Classic by Brooke Vitale is beautifully drawn and makes this amazingly important holiday story accessible for kids.

Elf Christmas Book for Gifts for Families

Elf

Okay, guys, we LOVE Buddy the Elf. We’ve heard ( inexplicably) that some people don’t actually like Will Ferrell’s Elf, but we have no idea how that could be as we watch it all season long and find it hilarious every single time! As one of our absolute favorite newer Christmas classic movies, Elf may be a little unbelievable, but that’s what we love about it. And this new Elf book by Kim Smith brings every favorite part from the film to the page. And the illustrations are adorable! This is a great book to have on hand so you can re-live all your favorite lines!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms Disney Christmas Book

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

If you’re in the mood for a story with a mystery or have a child ready for a read-aloud book, The Secret of the Realms should be on your Christmas Bookshelf. This book offers a great way to learn a little about The Nutcracker ahead of watching the film, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. If you’re interested in learning more about the Nutcracker and the stories that inspired the Four Realms be sure to read the Original Nutcracker by E.T.A Hoffman.

Disney A Merry Christmas Cookbook

We go crazy for cookbooks and have a collection of Christmas Cookbooks we reference every holiday season. So when we saw that we could get Disney’s A Merry Christmas Cookbook we were pretty excited! From milkshakes to food gifts to breakfast on Christmas morning, there are a ton of fun recipes here perfect for the kids to make on their own and with the grown-ups! An awesome first cookbook for any future baker in your house.

disney christmas card books

The Disney Christmas Card by Jeff Kurtti

From all of us to all of you, a very Merry Christmas. Frankly, we love Christmas all year round, but our favorite Christmas books only adorn the house during the holidays. If you’ve never seen the Walt Disney Company’s Christmas Card tradition, know that it included hand-drawn one-of-a-kind cards made by Walt Disney himself in the early days. This book tells the story of those cards and even has prototypes of many that were sent to staff and is just an all-around jolly book to own. You can get lost in this book and it’s an excellent treasure trove of inspiration. Get The Disney Christmas Card Book.

Eloise at Chrsitmastime

By far one of the best Christmas stories for the holidays, Eloise at Christmastime is all about the holidays at the Plaza Hotel, with Nanny and Skipperdee. Perfect for whimsical Christmas fun, this tale of adventures during the Christmas season follows Eoise singing carols, getting gifts, and making some Christmas wishes of her own.

Mickey’s Christmas Storybook Treasury

Unlike other compilation stories, Mickey’s Christmas Storybook Treasury combines four stories; Mickey’s Christmas Carol, Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s Christmas Wish, Donald’s Christmas Tree, and The Gift of the Magi. Since these are all must-read holiday stories for us, we were excited to see them all together in one book. Especially since if you hadn’t already purchased these stories in their Little Golden Book versions, it’s a great way to save some money on your Christmas Book Collection!

12 Days of Princess

The 12 Days of Princess is a Disney Princess Christmas book that we just love for the holidays. Since we collect some of the best Christmas Books, we can say that this is a super fun addition for little ones. If you’re hoping to teach your child about the princesses, this is a great holiday book you can read year after year. Set to the melody of the 12 Days of Christmas, the illustrations are beautiful, and a true keepsake.
