Free Disney Water Parks Day at Blizzard Beach
Head to the lounge chairs near the Warming Hut for a less crowded area to settle in for the day. Yes, you can leave some of your stuff at the chairs for the day. Just be mindful about what you leave unoccupied. Blizzard Beach at Walt Disney World opened in 1995 and features snowmen, snow covered mountains and a wintry setting, resembling a melting ski resort. More fun still, Walt Disney World’s Blizzard Beach comes complete with a backstory that explains the snowy mountain camps, chair lifts and toboggans found at this waterpark in Florida. So the story goes that a entrepreneur decided one blizzard-filled winter in Florida, to build a ski resort. Of course, it’s Florida, so that plan failed quickly when the sun came out and stayed. As a result, this park has a snow-covered mountain, icicles, melting snow a toboggan run, lazy river and more. So what are the best things to do at Blizzard Beach, if you’re only here for your Free Disney Water Parks Day?

Summit Plummet
The scariest ride in Blizzard Beach, the Summit Plummet includes a 360-foot-long slide that catapults you off the slide for a 12 story (120 feet) free fall, straight down. Very steep, fast and scary, this ride may be too much for children (and grownups!) While we are kind of big babies when it comes to scary rides, others are all for it! So, if you’re daring enough to do this one, more power to you! It’s a rite of passage to be sure!
Snow Stormers
Need something more sedate? While still a wild ride, this water slide toboggan ride is fun, just make sure you’re dressed for it! Made up of 3 waterslides this one has a toboggan-style mat for laying down on your belly. Water shoots guests down the flumes on this 350-foot-long winding course, headfirst! It’s the headfirst part that gets kinda scary.
Teamboat Springs
By far one of the most fun rides, this one reminds us of Kali River Rapids in Animal Kingdom Park. The raft fits 4-6 riders per innertube and whips guests down 1200 feet of slide filled with roaring whitewater rapids. What’s the challenge? Trying to stay inside the raft, as it twists, turns, rotates, and gets pulled back and forth before finally splashing down into a pool.
Runoff Rapids
If you’re looking for a fun innertube ride, then this is one that is super fun, and not as crazy as some of the others. This set of 3 slides all go through different areas, so the scenery changes as you slide. Plus they all take dips and turns before crashing into a shared pool, so you and the fam, or friends, can all get in the slides at once, and still end up in the same place. With 600 feet of corkscrew waterslide fun, grab an inner tube and pick a slide. Or three.
Ride the Chairlift
Okay, so you can definitely just use the chairlift to get to rides. But, you can also use the chairlift to just see the sights! This little ride is leisurely and scenic and takes you right up to Mount Gushmore for easy access to select rides. Once at the top of the mountain, guests can try out Summit Plummet, Slush Gusher, or Teamboat Springs. Or just ride back down again.
Cross Country Creek Lazy River
Okay, truth be told, we are lazy river people. There is nothing better than grabbing an innertube and just laying in the water, as it takes you down the rider. This lazy river wraps the entire water park and is about 3000 feet long. Of course there is a point to the lazy river, and that is…to get you where you want to go. So you can hop in an innertube and hop out for any favorite rides along the way. There are 7 places to grab and drop off inner tubes all along the lazy river bank.
Get Some Mini Donuts by Joffreys
Chances are, if you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know our obsession with Coffee at Disney World. And what goes with coffee? Donuts. Thankfully, at Blizzard Beach there is a whole snack stand just for mini donuts! You can grab 6 or 12, and they come with dipping sauces in chocolate, raspberry, and white chocolate. Yummy!

Toboggan Racers
Another fun head first ride, this toboggan race ride includes 3 hills for a bump ride. Grab a mat, and lay belly flat. This slide is 250 foot long and includes 8 lanes. Another slip n slide kind of ride, this one is fun, to race your friends and fam.
Grab Lunch at Lottawatta Lodge
The main quick service restaurant at Blizzard Beach is the Lottawatta Lodge. While there are other places to eat, this one offers full size pizzas, flatbreads, and plant-based options like the Impossible™ Burger, Tofu Rice Bowl and plant-based bratwurst. Frankly, we like it because it’s got a better menu than you’d usually find at a water park. Plus you can get desserts, and milkshakes here.
Slush Gusher
A pretty high intensity water slide the Slush Gusher is a snow-banked slide that includes 2 big hills to clear. While not as scary as Summit Plummet this one is still pretty fast, and pretty fun. This one dives 90 feet downhill and can go up to 35 mph. And since you’re going over 2 hills, there is some airtime on this ride. Be ready for it!

Free Disney Water Parks Day at Typhoon Lagoon
The other water park at Walt Disney World is Typhoon Lagoon. This water park has a theme set in the tropics. Ravaged by storms this water park is littered wit ships, fishing gear, trees, surfboards, and everything that has washed ashore after being thrown about. Home to one of the world’s largest wave pools, Typhoon Lagoon includes the “Miss Tilly” shrimp boat, stuck on top of Mount Mayday. This Park also has a mascot, Lagoona Gator. Typically open throughout the summer months, Typhoon Lagoon is home to a summer after hours party, H20 Nights.
Walk the Mountain Trail
With a starting point on each side of Mount Mayday, you can see the Mountain Trail noted on the signs, near Gangplank Falls. Instead of heading through the Forgotten Grotto, just head up the staircase right next to the Gangplank Falls queue. As you walk along it might appear that you’re joining the line for the family raft ride- Miss Adventure Falls, but you just veer away from the line and you’ll see the bridge for the mountain trail. This trail has a rackety bridge that goes right over Castaway Creek and leads you up to the “Miss Tilly” shipwreck. You can get great photos here, and then just head down the other side!
Crush N Gusher
As the parks water coaster, this 400-foot-long tube winds, and drops throughout the ride. Included 3 “fruit chutes” riders can choose from the Pineapple Plunger, Coconut Crusher or Banana Blaster. Water jets shoot and splash riders on rafts down the slide before finally splashing into Hideaway Bay.
Miss Adventure Falls
This family-raft can fit 4 people and offers up a whitewater raft experience that begins on a conveyer belt! Plunging the rafts into the water of this waterslide, this attraction features artifacts and treasures “lost” from the storm! Keep an eye out for a talking parrot during this ride, hunting for treasures of his own.
Sand Pail Ice Cream Sundae
Head to Happy Landings Ice Cream for fun cool treats, including the Sand Pail sundae. This treat includes swirl soft serve ice cream, caramel, hot fudge, Oreo cookies, waffle cone pieces, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry! You can also grab a variety of sundaes, cones, ice cream bars, and beverages.
Mayday Falls
Take a trip down Mount Mayday on this single-rider inner tube ride. Set atop Mount Mayday nearby the teetering shrimpboat, “Miss Tilly”, this ride includes curves, swerves and rushing water. The wildest of the raft rides at Typhoon Lagoon ( Keelhaul Falls and Gang Plank Falls) this one feels like rough rapids.
The Surf Pool
This wave pool features 6-foot swells in a continuous set and is the largest wave pool in North America! Triggered by a boom, the wave crests across this pool ad can even support body surfing. Inner tubes are not permitted here. And there is a wave “schedule” posted on the chalkboard at the edge of the beach.
Castaway Creek Lazy River
Another fun lazy river to be lazy in Castaway Creek offers up 5 landings where you can pick up and drop off your innertube. This 2,000-foot lazy river ride winds around the park, through grottos, waterfalls, forests, and under bridges.
Gangplank Falls
Raft down a 300-foot-long waterslide, under bridges, waterfalls, through caverns, and more. Spinning and crashing into the curved banks of this waterslide, this raft fits 4 people for this whitewater raft adventure down the mountain. Try not to fall out!
Grab Lunch at Leaning Palms
This quick service restaurant offers a Cuban Burger, salads, chicken nuggets and sandwiches, rice bowls, and beverages. A kid’s menu, and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are also available. Or if you’re into seafood, you can head to Typhoon Tilly’s instead.
