This is Halloween, this is Halloween! Ok so maybe it’s not quite Halloween just yet, but we are smack dab in the middle of spooky season and we can’t help but be excited about it! And since we generally tend to take advantage of the cooler weather and enjoy more nights in during fall, movie nights are some of our favorite ways to cherish the season. And Nightmare Before Christmas is one of our favorites! So to show our love for the pumpkin king, we created Halloween Recipes featuring Jack Skellington and his Halloween Town pals. So, settle in, make some treats and get ready for your Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Night!

If you’re a Nightmare Before Christmas fan you know the dilemma…do you watch this movie at Halloween or Christmas? For us, we usually start this movie in early October and do a few rewatches through the season. The songs are addicting and we love the life messages we get from this film. If you’re a diehard, chances are you have the DVD…. but you can also find Nightmare Before Christmas for rent on Amazon Prime, or on Disney+. In fact Nightmare before Christmas makes both our Halloween and Disney Christmas Movies on Disney Plus lists. No matter when you watch, we like to make a big deal about it with themed Disney Movie Night snacks. Here are some of our favorites.

Jack Skellington Oreo Pops
Starting off with Jack Skellington, we decided to make white chocolate covered oreos. Simple, not too expensive and not too time consuming. We love oreos, so anytime we can incorporate them into any type of treat is always a win for us. All you’ll need for this treat is oreos, white chocolate, candy sticks and dark chocolate or black icing. We love the holiday or double stuff oreos because it gives the candy stick more to grab onto, but you can use whichever variety you prefer.

For Jack’s face, you can decide how you want to decorate. We chose dark chocolate just so we weren’t using massive amounts of dye in our treats, but black icing may be easier to work with. I let my daughter pipe his face on the cookies and she had a blast. It’s a great activity for kids and remember, it’s your movie night, so nothing has to look perfect.
Ingredients
- 12 oreo cookies
- 12 cake pop sticks
- 2 c. white chocolate
- 1/2 c. melted dark or milk or chocolate for face design or edible marker in black
Instructions
- Cover your work surface with wax paper; line up oreos on wax paper
- In a double boiler or in the microwave, melt white chocolate
- Insert cake pop sticks into center of each oreo
- While still hot, dip oreos into melted white chocolate and cover fully
- Place dipped oreos onto wax paper and allow them to dry
- Once dry, decorate a face with melted chocolate or edible marker.

Sally Popcorn Mix
Of course we can’t forget Jack’s best girl, Sally. We wanted to make something to represent Sally, but again wanted to keep it somewhat simple to make. So we decided on a sweet and salty candy popcorn mix and were thrilled with how it turned out. And besides, what’s a Nightmare Before Christmas movie night without popcorn? The Candy popcorn was super simple to make and you’ll really just need a few ingredients and a candy thermometer. We added candy corn, dark chocolate Flipz to cut the sweetness and add a bit of salty to it and red M&M’s to represent her beautiful red hair.

Ingredients
- 8 cups popped corn, unpopped kernels removed and discarded
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon pure extract vanilla extract
- 10 to 15 drops food coloring, or 1/8 teaspoon gel food coloring
Instructions
- Line a 12 x 17-inch cookie sheet, or another large-sided, pan with aluminum foil. Preheat oven to 300 F.
- Melt the butter with sugar in a medium pot over low heat.
- Once melted, add the water and vanilla extract together and stir. Bring mixture to boil over medium heat. Stir continually.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer, untouched, until the temperature reaches 238 F with a candy thermometer.
- Add Food Coloring and stir. We used blue, for Sally’s dress
- Quickly add it to the popped popcorn in the bowl and stir into popcorn. Coat as much popcorn as possible.
- Spread the popcorn onto the pan. Then, bake in 300 F oven for 10 minutes.
- Remove and allow to cool! Done! This recipe is delicious, we hope you love it!

Oogie Boogie Slime Punch
How can we have a Nightmare Before Christmas movie night without the meanest guy in town?! That’s right, Oogie Boogie got his own punch. This was actually our favorite of the 3 treats and again, so simple and easy to make. We recommend for serving size and effect using a high ball glass, but any clear cups will work with these. We added gummy worms for the “snakes” and just slid them onto the spider sticks. Super easy! This drink also makes our 13 drinks for Halloween list!
Ingredients
- 2 c. Lime Sherbet
- 16 oz Sprite or 7 Up
- Gummy Worms
Instructions
- Prep 2 tall glasses by placing them in the freezer for 5-10 mins
- Add 1 c. sherbet to each
- Add 8 oz Sprite or 7 Up to each glass
- Top with gummy worms. Enjoy!
