We’ll admit, ours are usually from the Disney Channel, with poolside vibes, lots of comedy and a bit of melodrama, ( High School Musical 2, we’re talking to you). But, not all good Disney summer movies involve musical teens. We’re here to share the best Summer Movies on Disney Plus! From epic romps to exotic locales, to classic summer mix ups, we’ve rounded up 10 favorites.

For us a good summer movie is fun, bright and all about vacation mode. Think ice cream cones, baseball and mishaps. Disney Summer Movies- Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise ( 2021)

Based on the Jungle Cruise Ride at Disney World and Disneyland, this fun filled adventure is perfect for summer! If you’re up for a journey down the Amazon River, but don’t want to lose your head, this classic film starring Dwayne Johnson, and Emily Blunt is a favorite. Full of big time adventure, this Epic Summer Movie is all about vast scenery, hidden magic, and danger. We like watching this Disney movie for summer, with a cool drink, ( like the Starbucks Paradise Drink Recipe), or on the pop up movie screen next to the pool. 

Jungle Cruise Synopsis

Take the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. From London to the Amazon jungle she enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine.

Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.

Disney Summer Movies- Luca

Luca  (2021)

Head to Portorosso for the summer of a lifetime! Set along the seaside, this sweet tale follows Luca as he navigates the challenges of the bike race, eats too much pasta and learns about friendship, and accepting yourself. Beautiful, animated, scenery, makes this the perfect movie for your summer getaway without any of the stress of travel!

We don’t tend to be Pixar film people. Favorites for us in the past have been Brave, Big Hero 6 and Wall-E, so when Luca came out, we’ll admit we were hesitant. But great comedy, and beautiful animation had us reeled in. While you may be longing for your toes in the sand and bowls of pasta, this film will have you thinking about Lucas journey long after the final credits roll. 

Luca Synopsis

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, this coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, Alberto, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: they are sea monsters from another world just below the water’s surface.

Teen Beach Movie ( 2013)

Nothing says summer like sun and sand and a musical showdown between rival gangs. This Disney Movie About Summer debuted as a Disney Channel Summer Movie way back in 2013, and we still love it! An absolute gem, this one combines Classic Hollywood storytelling as a parody of West Side Story. With bikers and surfers taking to the beach for a variety of dance offs, there’s a storm brewing in the background with an evil villain  bent on ruining the perfect surfing weather. So much drama!

Teen Beach Movie Synopsis

There, amidst a sea of surfing, singing and dancing, Brady and Mack accidentally change the storyline, and the film’s dreamy hero and heroine fall for them instead of for each other! Can our heroes get the plot back on track, or will they be trapped there forever?

The Parent Trap (1998)

In this Disney Movie about summer you can head to the fashion houses of London and the vineyards of California, as these meddling twins work to get their parents back together. By far one of the best Disney summer movies, The Parent Trap comes with a mix-up, makeovers and a marriage! What’s not to like? A fateful meet up at a summer camp, gives these two girls a chance at happiness with a mom, and a dad, and they’re not willing to let the idea of a “whole family’ go for anything! Filled with lots of fun, and beautiful scenery, this Nancy Meyers movie, takes it’s  queues straight from the original and adds a modern twist. Based on The Parent Trap ( 1961) starring Hayley Mills and Maureen O’Hara, you can find both version son Disney+ and we highly recommend both! 

The Parent Trap Synopsis

Hallie Parker, a hip Californian, and Annie James, a proper London miss are identical twins who don’t even know each other exists — until they accidentally meet at summer camp. Now they’re up to their freckles in schemes and dreams to switch places, get their parents back together, and have the family they’ve always wished for!

High School Musical 2 ( 2007)

What time is it? It’s summer time! Featuring one of the best songs in the High School Musical movie trilogy, you can “bet on it” ; this is the quintessential summer movie. Whether you’re playing with the kids in the pool, or sipping a margarita on deck, this film is a pue summer on screen! With completely unrealistic job opportunities, and a steady of flow of costume and swimsuit changes, this film will have you wanting more, with this fabulous soundtrack. The perfect backdrop to summer. 

High School Musical Synopsis

The East High Wildcats are gearing up for big fun as they land the coolest summer jobs imaginable. Troy, Gabriella, Chad, and Taylor have scored sweet gigs at the Lava Springs Country Club owned by Sharpay and Ryan’s family. Sharpay’s first rule of business: Troy. As Troy experiences a life of privilege he’s never known, will he give up the Wildcats and Gabriella to rise to the top?

Finally available on Disney+ ( July 15, 2024) this classic summer movie is all about believing in yourself! Thanks to an Angel named Al, everything turns around for the better in this Disney Summer Movie. Honoring America’s favorite pastime, baseball, you can count on a baseball team in need of a lot of help and a lot of hope. Luckily, help is always available, when you ask for it! A great summer film about never giving up and having faith.  

Angels in the Outfield Synopsis

A young boy praying for a father. A struggling baseball team praying for a pennant. George Knox is the frustrated coach of the California Angels, a ragtag team of major-league misfits who are down on their luck. But things begin to look up when 11-year-old Roger, their biggest fan, starts giving Knox some winning tips from a real live angel named Al. The team miraculously climbs back into the pennant race, all the while learning to believe in themselves.

Disney Summer Movies- Lilo and Stitch

Lilo and Stitch ( 2002)

This perfect summer movie is set on the sunny sands of Hawaii, and brings everything we love about summertime. Breezes, ocean waves, and lots of reasons to enjoy the sunshine get a whole lot more fun when experiment 626 shows up! So, pull out your Elvis records, to dance along with Stitch. This Disney animated classic is timeless! And offers us lots of reasons to remember that even when a family is small, and broken, it’s still good. Or that Ohana means family, which means no one gets left behind or forgotten. Frankly, just pull out a notebook as you watch, because this movie is filled with darling Disney quotes, you’ll want to remember. 

Lilo and Stitch Synopsis

In Lilo and Stitch, get ready to crash-land on Earth with Stitch, a runaway genetic experiment from a faraway planet. As he wreaks havoc on the Hawaiian Islands, he becomes the mischievous adopted alien “puppy” of an independent little girl named Lilo and learns about loyalty, friendship, and ‘Ohana, the Hawaiian tradition of family.

Disney Summer Movies-The Sandlot

The Sandlot (1993)

By far the most iconic summer movie, The Sandlot, features everything you love about childhood summers. This ragtag team of friends play baseball, get into trouble at the local pool, and make friends with a blind neighbor whose dog has kept baseballs hostage for years. Lots of summer lore makes this one feel like the Goonies. Add in some forbidden love, and an underdog baseball team whose just gotta win, and the Sandlot will make you remember what its like to be a kid, just in case you needed reminding. 

The Sandlot Synopsis

It’s the early 1960s and 5th-grader Scotty Smalls has just moved into town with his folks. Kids call him a dork–he can’t even throw a baseball! But that changes when the leader of the neighborhood gang recruits him to play on the nearby sandlot field. It’s the beginning of a magical summer of baseball, wild adventures, first kisses and fearsome confrontations with the dreaded Beast and its owner who live behind the left field fence in this hilarious and warmhearted comedy.

Disney Summer Movies- Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl ( 2003)

By far one of the best movies of all time, Pirates of the Caribbean is a classic blockbuster summer film. Not necessarily because it takes place in the summer, but because it first graced the big screen in the summertime. This pirate movie is all about treasure, and a curse. Filled with extra romance, action and swordfights choregraphed by the great Bob Anderson, you simply can’t take your eyes offscreen as undead pirates swing from the sails, while capturing Elizabeth Swan. We love this movie so much, and just had to add it to the list. 

Pirates of the Caribbean Synopsis

The roguish yet charming Captain Jack Sparrow’s idyllic pirate life capsizes after his nemesis, the wily Captain Barbossa, steals his ship, the Black Pearl, and later attacks the town of Port Royal, kidnapping the governor’s beautiful daughter Elizabeth. In a gallant attempt to rescue her and recapture the Black Pearl, Elizabeth’s childhood friend Will Turner joins forces with Jack.What Will doesn’t know is that a cursed treasure has doomed Barbossa and his crew to live forever as the undead.

In addition to the classic High School Musical series and Teen Beach Movie, you can also find loads of Disney Channel Summer Movies that have been made over the years on Disney+. Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2 and Teen Beach Movie 2 all give you that same summer vibe. And Diary of a Wimpy Kid Dog Days is perfect for fans of the book series.

The Disney Channel classic, Bunk’d honors all things Summer Camp, while Phineas and Ferb brings extra fun to Summer Vacation.
