The Best Things to Do on Castaway Cay for Adults

The Best Things to Do on Castaway Cay for Adults

Disney’s Private island, Castaway Cay, is truly a slice of paradise!  Disney characters, free ice cream, fun excursions… there’s plenty to see and do! But what if you’re an adult cruising with Disney Cruise Line? Never fear there is plenty to do for adults only. Here is what you can enjoy on Castaway Cay for adults.

Castaway Cay Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line for Adults

Whenever we take a Disney Cruise, we are always asked if it’s a good vacation for adults only. And we always answer YES! Even though I am always traveling with my daughter, who is not an adult, I take time to check out all of the adult spaces onboard, usually while she’s in the teen’s club or relaxing and reading a book somewhere.  There is plenty of adult-only fun that can be had with Disney Cruise Line. From the lounges to the adult-only pool area, you can do a lot while cruising with Disney without children.  I have heard from people who have sailed with other cruise lines that Disney’s nightlife scene is lacking; but if I’m being honest, I would likely be in bed by midnight anyway, so none of that is really a big deal to me. We always see plenty of adult-only couples, girls’ trips, adult families, etc and they always seem to be having a great time. We think it’s a great adult-only getaway!

Or even if you’re cruising with kids, you can enjoy all of these amenities while they’re in kids’ clubs if they choose to attend those!

Castaway Cay Welcome Sign

Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. Most Caribbean itineraries will stop here, and some even twice! It’s such a popular destination for Disney Cruisers, that people pay extra to double dip or have two ports of call at Castaway Cay. And just like Disney Cruise Line, Castaway Cay has a special section just for adults. Here is what you can expect for adults at Castaway Cay.

Serenity Bay Castaway Cay

Adult Only Beach at Castaway Cay

There is an adult-only beach at Castaway Cay known as Serenity Bay. Serenity is located on the opposite side of the island from the family beach.  And can be accessed via the island tram, or bicycle, or if you’re up for it, you can walk.  Serenity Bay is much like it sounds. Peaceful and serene. The waters here are very calm. And there are plenty of chairs perfect for lounging. At Serenity Bay, you can also find live music, the adult-only lunch spot, Serenity Bay Barbeque, and the Castaway Air Bar.  The menu at these places is pretty much the same as you’d find around the island, but since they’re in the adult-only section, they tend to be a little less crowded.

Yoga At Serenity Bay

Yoga is also offered at Serenity Bay for adults only. Space is limited and you have to register beforehand. You can find this experience in the excursions section of your Disney Cruise Line account. It’s a great way to start the day.

Get a Massage!

Want to get pampered? Look no further than getting a massage in an open-air cabana at Serenity Bay. These tend to book up quickly, so you’ll need to reserve this as soon as your booking window opens up.

Rent a Cabana at Castaway Cay

Want the ultimate luxury? Rent a cabana at Castaway Cay!  Although most are not exclusively for adults, they do offer four cabanas at Serenity Bay if you really want to be secluded.  Regardless, it’s more of an upgraded experience than you would have at both family beach and Serenity Bay and comes with extra little perks. Things like a fridge stocked with drinks, a concierge, and more private sections of the beach are the draw here. These tend to go fast and are quite pricey; so, we recommend reserving yours as soon as your excursion booking window opens if you want a chance to rent a cabana at Castaway Cay.

Disney Bars on Castaway Cay

Olaf Drink Frozen Castaway Cay

Grab a Drink!

Even outside of Serenity Bay, there are bars all over the island. Most can serve up just about anything you like, including the drink of the day. The drink of the day is just $5 and changes each day. It’s a great way to save some money on your Disney Cruise as well as try some new things! And there’s also a non-alcoholic version each day, so if you’re avoiding alcohol, don’t worry. You can still enjoy a nice mixed beverage!  Aside from the Castaway Cay Air Bar at Serenity Bay, you can also stop by others around the island.

Bars on Castaway Cay Island

  • Heads Up Bar, which has a gorgeous location, tends to be a favorite amongst Disney Cruisers.
  • The Sand Bar is located near the Family Beach. And Conched Out Bar, which is also near the Family Beaches, tends to be another fan favorite.
  • Olaf’s Summertime Freeze sells smoothies and frozen drinks, some of which are alcoholic as well.

If you’re unsure of where you’d like to try a drink, ask your servers or your favorite bartender on the ship! The drinks are pretty much all the same throughout the island, but they all have different views and atmospheres.

Go for a Bike Ride

One of our favorite parts of our visits to Castaway Cay is exploring the island. And there’s no better way to do that then by bike! You can ride the same trail you would run. And can grab stops along the way. You can even grab a bike to head over to Serenity Bay for a spell.

Castaway Cay 5k

Run the Castaway Cay 5K

If you’re Disney Cruise Itinerary includes a stop at Castaway Cay, then be sure to check out the Castaway Cay 5K race! This self-paced 5K brings you through the trails on Castaway Cay and is perfect for both kids and adults. You can walk or run it, and simply have to sign in at the bike rental kiosk on the island to get started. Once you complete your 5K, you can collect your Castaway Cay 5K Medal to take home. We love this as a meaningful Free Disney Cruise Souvenir, and since it’s part of an experience, one that you should proudly display! While not an official runDisney marathon race, we still loved this activity as a way to see the island and give us a bit of a challenge.

As you can see, there is plenty to see and do at Castaway Cay for adults! It really is a little piece of Heaven on Earth and anyone can have a magical time here, no matter their age. Have you been to Castaway Cay?
