One of our favorite things that we got to see at this year’s D23 Expo was Walt’s Plane exhibit. The plane has been restored and is looking great! There’s even some fun new merch for Walt’s Plane that can be found on Amazon. Walt Disney’s Plane
Did you know Walt Disney owned his own plane? It’s true! He wanted to buy his own private airplane after having some not so great experiences flying commercially. However, he had to convince his brother Roy that it was a good business investment, and that financially it would make sense. After running some figures, Roy approved of the purchase and the rest is history. This specific plane was often used by Walt for travel between Burbank, CA and Orlando, FL. And it was eventually even affectionally nicknamed “The Mouse”. And even had little Mickey Mouse touches throughout.
Walt’s Plane Exhibit at D23 Expo
The Grumman Gulfstream I made its return to the public eye at 2022’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. With help from Amazon, a platinum D23 sponsor, she was returned to all her former glory. This exhibit was one of our favorites and we loved seeing all of the archival materials that really brought this exhibit to life. Guests of the Expo got a look at the seats and interior of the plane. Cocktail napkins and gift bags given to guests boarding the plane were also on display. Obviously, as Disney history fans, this was incredible for us to see!

Starting October 15, 2022, Walt’s Plane will be on display at the Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs, CA.
