Disney’s Princess and the Frog is seriously one of the best Disney animated movies to come out since the Disney Renaissance (1989- 1999). As such we always try to work it in to our Mardi Graas celebrations. So, whether you’re hosting this Princess and the Frog Movie night with your little princess, or a group of friends, we’re sharing everything you need to make it extra special. From beignet recipes and milkshakes, to crafts and cute Tiana inspired shirts to pair with pj pants. Settle in for a Disney Movie night perfect for Mardi Gras season.
What’s your favorite Princess and the Frog scene? For us, there are just so many! Mama Odie’s Dig a Little Deeper, Tiana’s Almost There and Randy Newman’s Down in New Orleans are some of the best. No matter your favorite they’re almost all accompanied by amazing songs, featuring Anika Noni Rose, and Jenifer Lewis. So why not dig right into all things New Orleans, and add the Princess and Frog Soundtrack on Spotify to your playlist during yoru baking and party prep to help set the mood?

Princess and the Frog Mardi Gras Jambalaya Recipe
While you can make anything from the Princess and the Frog Cookbook we most liked the Jambalaya for the extra veggies and as a one pot meal on a movie night. Better yet, this meal can cook in the crock pot while you do your craft, or fry the beignets, to make things extra easy. And if you’re going meatless, just omit the chicken and sausage.
Jambalaya Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch chunks
- 1/2 pound Andouille sausage, cooked and thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 large celery stalks, chopped
- 1 small bell pepper, seeded and chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup canned chopped tomatoes with chilies
- 2 cups uncooked white rice
- 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Jambalaya Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large frying pan or pot over medium-high heat and sauté the chicken until cooked through, about 5 minutes.
- Reduce the heat to medium. Stir in the sausage, onion, celery, bell pepper, and garlic. Sprinkle on the salt and ground black pepper, and stir again. Cook the mixture for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes and the uncooked rice. Then stir in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan. Simmer the jambalaya until the rice is tender, about 20 minutes. Stir in the Worcestershire and hot pepper sauces.

Princess and the Frog Man Catchin’ Beignet Recipe
Our Disney Beignet Recipe is a go to every Mardi Gras Season. A word of caution on these, do not overmix or over handle the dough. And when you fry them up, don’t over cook! Sprinkle with (lots of) powdered sugar! And voila! Tiana’s man catchin’ Beignets! Nothing but blue skies and sunshine guaranteed;) Let’s Jump into How to Make Beignets.
Beignet Ingredients
- 2-3/4 c. flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1/3 c. water
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable Oil for frying
- Confectioner’s sugar, for dusting

Beignet Instructions
In a medium bowl, combine 2 1/4 cups of the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. Whisk everything together. In a large bowl, whisk together buttermilk, water, egg, and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients. Use remaining flour to dust work surface.
Place the dough on it and pat it into a large 1/2 inch thick square. Dust the top with more if it gets sticky. Next, slice the dough into 2 1/2 squares.(This is where we used the Mickey cookie cutter instead.)
Now it’s time to fry the beignets. Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy saucepan on the stove top until the temperature reaches 325 degrees on a deep fat thermometer. Check the temperature every so often while cooking. If it gets too hot, temporarily turn the heat down or off.
Carefully drop 3 dough squares at a time in the hot oil. Fry them for three minutes(we only fried ours for about 2 minutes, so just keep a close eye on them while they cook), turn them over, and continue frying for 3 more minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the beignets to a wire rack set atop paper towels to drain. Dust the beignets with confectioner’s sugar and enjoy!
Princess and the Frog King Cake Milkshake Recipe
If you’re looking for anything to get you in to the festive Fat Tuesday mood this year, before kicking off a day of fasting and the Easter season, it’s this! A King Cake Milkshake Crazy Shake, topped with a Beignet. Yes, please! Better yet, you don’t even have to try that hard to make this Mardi Gras dessert a success. Just a bunch of Festive Mardi Gras Sugar sprinkles, some Blue Bell King Cake Ice Cream and loads of whipped cream or cool whip and you’re ready to party. And yes, you can buy the King Cake Ice Cream online too.
If you can’t find King Cake Ice Cream at your local store any cinnamon flavored ice cream will do. And if you’re in a last minute bind, there’s no harm in just throwing together some vanilla ice cream and cinnamon sugar too.
Ingredients
- 1/2 gallon King Cake Ice Cream
- Caramel Sauce ( we like Torani)
- Mardi Gras Sprinkles
- Whipped Cream, or Cool Whip
Instructions
- Remove Ice Cream carton from freezer about 15 minutes before use, to lightly soften.
- Meanwhile drizzle caramel sauce inside the milkshake glass, then add a mix of the Mardi Gras sugar crystals.
- Carefully spoon ice cream into glass. Top with more caramel sauce, cool whip or whipped cream and sprinkles.
- Add straw and slide Beignet onto straw for a crazy shake finish!

Princess and the Frog Mardi Gras Bead Coasters
So easy to make, we love Mickey Coasters in general, but these ones are made with strands of Mardi Gras beads. This craft requires glue, a set of Mardi Gras bead necklaces and a cardboard, or cardstock backing. Easy to make you can do this to add a little sass to your grown up 1920’s Mardi Gras Party or Disney Princess Tiana Party. It works for both. Here are the quick instructions.
- Draw a Mickey shape on the cardstock, make sure it’s big enough to fit a mug.
- You will need about 4 strands of beads for each coaster. Cut each necklace in half, so it makes four strands.
- Add glue to the cardstock, and start from the middle, winding the beads from the center outwards, to make a circle shape. The head will take about one and half strands, and each ear will take about half a strand. Just cut the extra beads as you finish each shape.
You can mix and match bead colors, just be sure to add more glue as needed to keep the circle in place. When finished you can trim the cardboard edges, and voila! Coasters for your drinks.
