All About EPCOT Park at Disney World

EPCOT Park is best known for the park icon, Spaceship Earth. This architectural wonder not only stands at the entrance of the park, but also features light shows and the Spaceship Earth ride inside it. Home to the EPCOT Festivals, this park is known for the Frozen Ever After Ride, Soarin’ at the Land Building and the new Moana Journey of Water attraction. Add in dozens of cultural cusines features in restaurants and outdoor kitchens across the park, and you’ll have plenty to do. Whether you’re cramming this park into one day or a week, here are all the things you need to know before you go. Including the things to do, see and eat at EPCOT Park.

EPCOT Park Tickets

While Disney World Tickets are not specific to each of the four theme parks, you simply need buy a WDW ticket and it will get you into any of the four theme parks: EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom. In fact, if you’re hoping to try for two or more parks in one day,  you simply need add the Park Hopper Ticket to your purchase, and voila! Purchase an EPCOT Park Ticket or Disney Vacation Package to get your Disney Vacation plans started.

Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane Ticket Add Ons

While the planning portion of Disney Genie+ is free to use within the My Disney Experience App, the ride reservation system is separate. Billed per person, per day, you have two choices when purchases this add-on to your EPCOT ticket.

Purchasing Genie+ Plus allows you the option to select 2 rides for which you can skip the line, aka wait in the Lightning Lane instead of the regular line. The Lightning Lane line typically moves faster, and since you select the times you plan on returning to the ride in Genie+ Plus, helps you maximize your Disney Park Time. When you use Genie+ strategically, you select ride times in the early part of the day first, so that you can add additional rides to your account throughout the day, once those initial rides are completed. This is called “stacking” rides and can often get you onto more rides throughout the day.

Individual Lightning Lane on the other hand, while named the same as the ride line, is a for purchase individual ride option, also accessible in the app. This is specific to only certain popular rides. In EPCOT the Individual Lightning Lane Option is Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind. An alternative to Lightning Lane is using the Virtual Queue Boarding Pass system to reserve your spot in line.

EPCOT Park Hours

EPCOT Park Hours are typically 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. This doesn’t include Early Entry or Extended Evening Hours. As a result be sure to check out the Up to Date Hours and Event Schedules on the Disney 5 Day Calendar. Or on the My Disney Experience App, which you should have downloaded on your phone prior to your vacation. Note, that in EPCOT during the festivals, the outdoor kitchens open at 11:00 am. This means you have a couple hours in the park, ahead of the festival crowds to tackle rides.

  • Early Entry Hours ( when offered): 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM
  • EPCOT Daytime Hours: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • EPCOT Festival Hours: 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM
  • Extended Evening Hours ( when offered): 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Early Morning Entry and Extended Evening Hours

Early Entry Hours are available to Disney Resort Guests and allows guests to enter the park 30 minutes prior to park opening. To make the most of your extra time, we recommend arriving at the park gates, at least 30 minutes before your Early Theme Park Entry time. While some of the EPCOT Park sections may not be open, it still gets you close to the action to get into lines early, or just enjoy the park.

Extended Evening Hours

Available to Disney Deluxe Resort Guests, the Extended Evening Hours allow you to stay an hour or two after the park closes. This is also a huge perk for guests interested in riding Guardians of the Galaxy, which requires a virtual queue boarding pass. If you’re staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort, you get the option, to join the 6:00 PM Virtual Queue for Guardians which allows you the chance to ride the ride. Be sure to the check out the details of getting a Virtual Queue Boarding Pass which you can access in the My Disney Experience App.

What is the Best Day to Visit EPCOT?

The best days to visit EPCOT are Tuesdays, and Wednesdays for lower crowd levels. With Mondays following a close third place. Due to the fact that most locals have a busy start to the workweek and don’t tend to head to EPCOT on Mondays. Weekdays at Epcot are usually safe. Since this is one of the food and drink meccas in Orlando, Florida, you can bet that weekends and evenings get pretty packed, and if you’re there during a festival of any kind avoid the weekends completely. Check out the full post on the Best Days to Visit Walt Disney World for a sample itinerary.

What is the Busiest Day at EPCOT?

The busiest days at EPCOT are Saturdays and Sundays.  With Friday following close behind. The crowd levels on these days are due to the heavy influx of local Disney Annual Passholders, combined with both incoming and outgoing family vacationers to the parks.

  • Sunday is the busiest day at every Walt Disney World Park.
  • Saturday the second busiest.
  • Monday the third busiest.
  • Friday the fourth busiest.

How Many Days Do you Need at EPCOT?

EPCOT is a 2-Day Park when you’re visiting for a festival. With rides and attractions in each World Showcase country as well other areas of the park, you’ll want to plan ample time in this park. Rides like Soarin’, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, and Frozen Ever After are all popular and you should plan for the waits. Epcot Festivals add another layer of things to do, like trying out foods, taking classes, watching performances, shows and playing games. As such, you will need at least 2 days at EPCOT to fit it all in. And even then, you may still not get to everything. While you can definitely fit EPCOT into One Day, you won’t get to ride everything, or experience all the areas of the park.

EPCOT Park Capacity

Walt Disney World’s EPCOT Park is most frequented during the festival seasons, which happen four times a year, almost back to back. Summers are noticeably crowded. Luckily, EPCOT Capacity Levels are monitored closely to improve Guest Experience. EPCOT can hold between 110,000 people a day, but typically sees between 35,000- 40,000 visitors per day. Check out our Disney World Maximum Capacity Post for details on each park.

Places at EPCOT to Take Breaks

EPCOT Park is easy to navigate and offers plenty of hidden spaces within each World Showcase country. Also, given it’s location next door to Disney’s BoardWalk, there are even more places to take a break at Disney if you need a break.  we always recommend taking breaks when you can. Check out all the places in EPCOT to take a break. We generally recommend building in break time during your Disney trip during the hottest and busiest part of the day, between 12-4 PM.

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind

EPCOT Parking and Transportation

EPCOT Park has it’s own parking lot as well as transportation access by Disney Monorail, Disney Skyliner, and Boat! Of all the parks, EPCOT is one of the most centrally located, near the Disney Boardwalk, and Disney Springs. The address of EPCOT is at 200 Epcot Center Drive, Orlando, FL 32830.

If Driving: Just park! While Epcot’s parking lot is nowhere as big as Magic Kingdom’s it’s still quite a hike to the main gates, so be ready to hike it, or grab a tram from your car.

From the Monorail: EPCOT is available on the monorail that attaches to the TTC; Ticket and Transportation Center. The TTC attaches to the rail serving the Polynesian Resort, Grand Floridian Resort, and Contemporary Resort. As such, if you’re staying at any of these resorts, you can simply transfer at the TTC to the EPCOT Monorail.

From the Boat: EPCOT can be reached by a small ferry if you’re staying at the Swan and Dolphin or any of the Boardwalk resorts. The EPCOT boat dock is found at the back of the park, at EPCOT’s International Gateway.

By Disney Bus: Every Disney resort bus goes to EPCOT. So, if you’re staying on property at Disney World, you can get to EPCOT quite easily by bus.

EPCOT Rides & Attractions

EPCOT has some of the more popular rides at Disney World. As such, if you’re hoping to ride many of them, it’s important to have a Disney Ride Strategy. Be sure to save the busiest rides for morning or evening magic hours. Don’t waste a Genie+ Lightning Lane at these times, unless it’s for a popular ride, as fewer people in the parks mean a much shorter wait at rides. However, you’ll want to plan our your EPCOT day to get in the things you care about most. Don’t forget that EPCOT is also home to the Kidcot Fun Stops, offering the chance for kids to track their journey around the World Showcase with cute cards to color, and an interaction with a cast member in each country. Check out the Best Rides at Disney World, for a rundown of favorites to build in to your EPCOT Must Do Days.

EPCOT Park Itinerary

Planning a day or two at EPCOT need not be difficult. Separated into 4 areas, it’s easy to simply tackle certain areas each day. But if you’re trying to fit Epcot into one day, check out our Top 10 Things in EPCOT to do. Check out our guide on Planning a Day at Disney to get a handle on tips and recommendations.

Day 1 at EPCOT Park

Chances of you visiting EPCOT Park while a festival is happening is pretty good. As such, we’ll factor that into your Epcot Itinerary Plan. Arrive early when the park opens to tackle your must do rides. Soarin’, Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure are all top choices. Remember that Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind requires a Virtual Queue Boarding Pass so be sure to grab one when it becomes available in the My Disney Experience App at 7 AM. Fill your morning hours with important rides so that you can head to the  Festival Kitchens at 11am when they open. Around 4pm, the locals will descend  on EPCOT. At that point we recommend you take a break and head to the Disney Boardwalk. There you can grab dinner, ( We like Trattoria al Forno and Ale and Compass best) or rent the surrey bikes. Anything to get out of the crowds. Return to EPCOT after get in any last minute things. Grab a bag of Werther’s caramel popcorn and watch the Nighttime show near the parks closing time.

Day 2 at EPCOT Park

Day 2 at EPCOT Park is all about finishing up what you didn’t on your first day. If you were unable to ride Guardians of the Galaxy, try for another boarding pass today, they also drop at 1pm in the app, and at 6 pm in the app for Disney Deluxe Resort Guests during days with extended evening hours. Other attractions to add to your list are the Gran Fiesta Tour in Mexico, Living with the Land, and Spaceship Earth. Take today to meet characters and watch the impromptu shows in each country. Musicians, acrobats and performers all have showtimes throughout the day. Head to the Space 220 Lounge for a drink, and plan to grab pizza at Via Napoli for dinner. And since you caught the Nighttime show your first day, you can leave before the park closes to catch an early night and skip the crowds at the bus depot and monorail station.

  • This is a great post! I have been to Epcot once, but it was when I was 12, so I’m sure many things have changed since then! I’d love to go again and I hope I’ll be able to within the next few years, but until then Disneyland is a much easier and affordable trip for me since I live in California.

    • Thanks Sarena! We’re hoping it will help others get the most out of their Epcot day. Epcot can be crazy overwhelming because there is so so much to do. And yes, a lot has changed. In fact we’re slowly watching some new construction go up over there! A new country could be added to the world showcase any day now. Bets have been on Brazil:) popping up between Germany and Italy. Chances are if you wait a few years you’ll get there right when everything is new again! Yay!
